Well put.
Just as they hold me back, the smoke obscures your vision from the fire, being life in my case, but by not allowing the smoke to hinder you, it passes by, and the fire becomes visible, as all that is blocking you dissipates. Rather encouraging. Though that is just my interpretation of your words.
